1.Apple revealed its iPhone 12 5G lineup. Highlights from the firm’s October 2020 event include the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro.
2.Apple is making a second attempt at wireless charging. The company announced the MagSafe wireless charging mat, which snaps onto the latest iPhone 12 with magnets.
3.SoftBank ploughed $215 million into ed-tech startup Kahoot. The firm is already backed by a host of major players, including Disney and Microsoft.
4.Alphabet’s moonshot lab is talking about its mistakes. Among the company’s list of failed projects was a lip-reading computer interface.
5.Facebook donated $1.3 million to Bletchley Park. Facebook’s chief technology officer said the firm “would not exist” today without the UK’s World War II code-breaking headquarters.
6.Twitter suspended fake accounts claiming to be Black Trump supporters. Before Twitter intervened, the accounts accumulated more than 265,000 retweets and mentions and tens of thousands of followers.
7.Exclusive: The UK government awarded health startup Thriva $80 million to help scale up COVID-19 testing. Thriva has been enlisted to provide an “end-to-end serology testing service”.
8.More than 3,000 Amazon workers want time off to vote. A petition by the workers also demanded that the “additional day/shift off must be available to all employees every year”.
9.HBO and Channing Tatum are developing a new show about Elon Musk. The series will follow the early days of SpaceX, including the launch of its first rocket into orbit, and is based on Musk’s biography, written by Ashlee Vance.
10.Facebook’s ban on Holocaust denial won’t extend to other genocides. The firm did not clarify why denials of other historical genocides would still be allowed on its platform.
