Whoop Has A New Problem: Garmin Just Dropped A Screenless Fitness Band

Garmin has officially entered the growing market for screenless fitness wearables with the launch of the Garmin CIRQA Smart Band, a minimalist fitness tracker designed to rival Whoop and other subscription-based recovery trackers. The new wearable marks Garmin’s first major entry into the screen-free category, focusing on continuous health monitoring rather than smartwatch-style notifications or apps.

Unlike traditional fitness trackers, the CIRQA has no display, encouraging users to stay focused on their activities while collecting health data around the clock. Garmin says users can review their insights through the Garmin Connect app instead of constantly checking a screen.

One of the biggest selling points is that Garmin is not requiring a subscription to access the band’s core fitness and health tracking features. This sets it apart from competitors like Whoop, whose platform relies on an ongoing membership for access to advanced analytics. Garmin instead offers optional premium features through its Garmin Connect+ subscription while leaving the primary tracking experience available at no additional cost.

The CIRQA continuously tracks a wide range of health metrics, including:

24/7 heart rate monitoring
Recovery and readiness insights
Breathing patterns
Automatic workout detection
Blood oxygen (SpOâ‚‚)
Skin temperature
Sleep stages and sleep quality
Women’s health tracking

The tracker also supports more than 80 different activity types, automatically logging workouts into Garmin Connect for detailed analysis.

Battery life is another highlight. Garmin says the CIRQA can last up to 10 days on a single charge, placing it between Fitbit’s screenless tracker and Whoop in terms of endurance. The lightweight fabric band is available in multiple colors and two different sizes to improve comfort for all-day and overnight wear.

Priced at $199.99, the CIRQA is positioned as a premium fitness tracker while remaining significantly less expensive over time than subscription-based competitors. Garmin says the tracker will begin shipping on July 24.

The launch reflects a broader shift in the wearable market toward “invisible” fitness devices that prioritise recovery, sleep, and long-term health metrics over on-device interactions. As consumers increasingly seek distraction-free wearables, Garmin’s entry introduces another major competitor into a segment that has been largely dominated by Whoop and Oura.
